After last year’s sell-out concert movie screening of Stop Making Sense we are back at The Clapham Grand in June with another themed film event.
Bugged Out have a long standing relationship with The Chemical Brothers that stretches back 25 years, we are proud to collaborate with them again with an exclusive screening of their triumphant 2012 film Don’t Think preceded by a special DJ set from Justin Robertson and an exclusive early doors listen to ‘Chemical Chill’ a compilation of their more laid back tracks chosen and segued by the band.
We are thrilled that Adam Smith will be introducing the film. Smith has worked closely with the Chems since their first gig in 1994.
Plot synopsis: “For nearly two decades, The Chemical Brothers' "mind-bending" audiovisual live show has played to packed houses and festivals across the globe. But it has never been documented on film. Until 2011, at the iconic Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, The Chemical Brothers played a headline set in front of 50,000 fans which was captured on 21 cameras. Immersing us in the thick of a frenetic crowd, Don't Think captures the synaesthetic barrage of sound, film and light and the transforming effect it has on its audience. Directed by Adam Smith, one of the show's visual creators, we are taken on a magical realist psychedelic journey where we feel the show rather than merely watch it.”
Justin Robertson will be playing a special set harking back to his nights Spice and Most Excellent that ran from 1990-1993 in Manchester. Justin was one of Tom & Ed’s DJ mentors, they were regulars at these nights when they were students in the city, soaking up the sounds that ranged through the spectrum of wigged out renegade beats, piano led canterers, maverick Italian disco, and balearic dub excursions…
Early doors we’ll be playing ‘Chemical Chill’ - chosen and segued by the band themselves for this event - which features their more laid back tracks like ‘Asleep From Day’, ‘Where Do I Begin’ and ‘If You Kling To Me I’ll Klong To You.’
The Grand will have hot dogs, nachos and popcorn on sale so come down early and eat to the beat.
